Origin:

The Redneck Severum is an as yet undescribed species known only from parts of the Amazon basin near to Iquitos, northern Peru. Here, it inhabits the slow-moving parts of rivers that are thick with marginal vegetation and submerged tree roots.

Habitat:

This species is native to South America, specifically found in the Amazon River basin. It inhabits slow-moving rivers, flooded forests, and lakes with dense vegetation.

To provide a comfortable environment for your Redneck Severum, a spacious tank of at least 50 gallons is recommended. Decorate the tank with rocks, driftwood, and live plants to mimic its natural habitat. Ensure the water is well-filtered and maintained at a temperature range of 75-82°F (24-28°C) with a pH level of 6.0-7.5.

Diet:

The Redneck Severum is an omnivorous fish that enjoys a varied diet. Offer a combination of high-quality pellets, flakes, and frozen or live foods such as brine shrimp, bloodworms, and small insects. Supplement their diet with vegetable matter like blanched spinach or peas.

Size:

As juveniles, Redneck Severums typically measure around 2-3 inches. With proper care, they can grow up to 8-10 inches in length. Growth rate varies depending on factors such as diet, water conditions, and tank size.

Behavioural Traits:

Known for their peaceful nature, Redneck Severums can be kept in community tanks with other non-aggressive fish species. They are generally territorial during breeding and may become more aggressive during this time. However, they are usually compatible with other similarly sized fish.
